We do a lot of customization work for WordPress e-commerce sites. Here are just a couple of things we’ve done lately.

Customized two shipping modules to allow for an additional amount to be added to the shipping calculator.

Added a surcharge for a site that must charge extra for a particular product sold in their state.

Added a free ground shipping option when a purchase was over a certain amount.

Customized the wp e-Commerce packing slip to include a separate invoice.

iTrekNepal Conversion

iTrekNepal, has always received complements about the company website. People like how clean it is, how easy it is to navigate and how informative it is. However, like many companies, the difficulty for iTrekNepal has been keeping the site updated. At times they’ve had webmasters on retainers and hired the work out. Unfortunately, they’ve discovered what many companies find, the changes they need either don’t get made in a timely fashion or they aren’t done properly. In an industry where important changes need to be reflected on the company website as soon as they occur, what iTrekNepal has longed for is a content management system (cms) that would allow a company representative to easily make changes.

We were pleased to be chosen to work with iTrekNepal to put a quality cms behind their clean design and really pleased when they went with our recommendation to use WordPress. What makes the iTrekNepal site challenging for an average cms to handle is that it has an abundance of styles and 30 plus sidebar permutations, and of course the sidebars need to be just as flexible and easy to update as the main content column is. One of our best decisions in converting the site to WordPress was choosing to use WP Mosaic. A new theme building system for WordPress.

In addition to the above challenges, SEO was a primary focus as the company had already had their search engine optimization abused by a previous developer who had cost them the rankings they’d worked hard in the past to gain. Anyone who knows WordPress knows that in the right hands it does a beautiful job of handling search engine optimization. We expect the site to launch as a WordPress site in the next couple of weeks.

Custom Packing Slip and Invoice for WP e-Commerce

WP e-Commerce is the most robust shopping cart built to date for use exclusively with WordPress. While feature rich, shop owners frequently desire customization. Being open source software this is not only possible but encouraged. Recently we were contracted to completely re-do the packing slip, customize it with exactly the information our client wanted and format it to meet the client’s needs. In addition, to date there had not been any type of invoice for WP e-Commerce and our client wanted this as well so we built and customized it. The final problem was that printing. While WP e-Comerce allows printing the entire screen this was an unsatisfactory solution for our client who is now able to simply hit a print button and print just his packing slip or invoice.

CoffeeReview Blogs and Forums

CoffeeReview.com is a specialty coffee site targeted at coffee drinkers, food service professionals and the coffee industry. If you’re a coffee connoisseur, this is the site for you and we’ve been lucky enough to have been chosen to build their blogs and forums. These are new additions to their site which launches today with a new look.

We’ve loved this job, not just because it’s about coffee but because it has provided some great technical challenges. Take a look at the blog home page , for example, and you’ll see that the layout is quite different from common blogs. The Blogger’s box pulls from the author profiles. It also includes a forum that is integrated with WordPress.
